What you can expect from this position:
Reporting to the Manager, Electrical Systems, this role is responsible for organizing and coordinating the Building Electrical Maintenance function in support of terminal and groundside operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable performance of electrical systems and infrastructure. Working closely with the Electrical Manager, the role contributes to work planning, scheduling, and resource allocation, while supporting preventative maintenance, restoration programs, and lifecycle management of assets. The position provides technical expertise, prepares cost estimates, supports procurement and inventory management, and maintains the integrity of CMMS data and electrical documentation. It also serves as a key liaison with contractors and stakeholders, oversees training and development of staff, conducts inspections and audits, and delivers hands-on support for complex maintenance and repair work, while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and energy efficiency.
As a Technical Support Specialist, Electrical Systems, you will:
- Organize and coordinate daily Building Electrical Maintenance activities across terminal and groundside operations.
- Support the development and implementation of work plans, including scheduling, task assignment, and resource allocation.
- Contribute to operational planning by helping establish procedures and performance criteria for maintenance functions.
- Source materials and recommend procurement of equipment, tools, and supplies to meet operational needs.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels and support CMMS (Maximo) accuracy and preventative maintenance data integrity.
- Deliver technical expertise, including reviewing drawings, preparing cost estimates, and defining scopes of work.
- Conduct inspections, audits, and condition assessments to support asset reliability and restoration planning.
- Liaise with contractors, tenants, and stakeholders, coordinating power outages/shutdowns and minimizing operational disruption.
- Train and develop staff by providing on-the-job guidance, identifying skill gaps, and supporting formal training initiatives.
- Perform complex maintenance and repair work while identifying system improvements, energy efficiencies, and lifecycle optimization opportunities.
This unionized position is classified at the Band 9 level, with an hourly wage of $57.66 based on a 40 hour work week. The successful candidate must be available to commence the duties of the position once a selection decision has been made. A test will be administered as a part of the competitive process.
This is the role for you, if you have:
- 3 years of Airport Electrical Department experience.
- Electrical license 309A - Electrical Construction and Maintenance Certificate of Qualification.
- Valid Provincial Driver’s G License.
- D/A class AVOP permit.
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance.
Knowledge and skills you bring, that set you up for success:
- Knowledge of electrical practices, codes, standards, theories and procedures, and sufficient knowledge of the other trades in order to represent a senior level of direction to all trades knowledge of all electrical systems characteristics and maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of developing training programs and training staff.
- Knowledge of supervising contractors.
- Knowledge of work planning, diagnoses and leading repairs and inspections.
- Knowledge of records management and other administrative practices and procedures including CMMS reporting.
- Ability to demonstrate schedule flexibility, including supporting occasional shift work for shut-downs and special projects. The role also requires participation in an on-call rotation outside of regular working hours, with the ability to be available on-site within 90 minutes, 24/7, when required.
