We are seeking a skilled Music Copyist / Arranger to assist with developing musical ideas into professionally written scores and arrangements. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of music theory, orchestration, staff notation, and score preparation, and be able to accurately capture musical ideas by listening and translating them into written music.
This is an in-person position based in Surrey and is ideal for someone who enjoys composition, arranging, and working closely on original music projects.
Responsibilities
- Listen to recorded performances, improvisations, and musical ideas, and accurately transcribe them into staff notation.
- Develop short musical ideas into complete compositions and arrangements.
- Prepare professional scores and individual instrumental parts.
- Assist with orchestration and instrumentation.
- Suggest harmonic, rhythmic, and structural ideas where appropriate.
- Edit, revise, and proofread music notation.
- Organize and maintain music libraries and score files.
- Prepare performance-ready sheet music for rehearsals, recordings, and concerts.
- Work closely to refine compositions through multiple revisions.
Qualifications
- Excellent knowledge of music theory and harmony.
- Strong ability to read and write staff notation.
- Experience with notation software such as Sibelius, Dorico, Finale, or MuseScore.
- Ability to accurately transcribe music by ear.
- Experience with arranging for solo instruments, ensembles, or orchestras.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Organized, dependable, and able to meet deadlines.
Preferred Skills
Experience in one or more of the following is an asset:
- Orchestration
- Film or cinematic music
- Indian classical or world music
- Chamber or orchestral writing
- Contemporary classical composition
- Piano proficiency
- Conducting or ensemble experience
