Why is this role important?
In this role you will support the Health Workforce Information (HWI) Data Management and Operations department with a variety of operational and project-related activities that contribute to CIHI's goal of delivering comparable and actionable health workforce information. As a co-op student, you will gain exposure to the collection, processing, management, and stewardship of health workforce data while supporting initiatives that help advance CIHI's mandate of better data, better decisions, for healthier Canadians.
This position offers an opportunity to develop practical skills in data management, research, documentation, quality assurance, and project support within a collaborative team environment.
What you'll do
1. Support day-to-day operational and project activities within the Health Workforce Information department
2. Assist with data processing, validation, and quality assurance activities using established tools and procedures.
3. Conduct research, information gathering, and data verification activities.
4. Prepare and maintain documentation, reports, spreadsheets, and reference materials.
5. Assist with organizing project files, records, and supporting materials.
6. Support coordination, communication, monitoring, and reporting activities for departmental projects.
7. Participate in team discussions and contribute ideas for improving processes and workflows.
8. Provide general administrative and operational support to the team as required.
What you'll bring to the table
- Working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in health sciences, health administration, health informatics, information management, business, social sciences, computer science, data science, statistics, or a related field that requires a co-op placement.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong problem -solving, research, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Experience working with data, spreadsheets, or databases is an asset.
- Familiarity with programming or data analysis tools such as Python, SQL, or similar technologies is an asset.
- Knowledge of health care, health workforce information, or health data is an asset.
- Experience with quality assurance, reporting, or process documentation is an asset.
