Overview
COED is seeking compassionate, enthusiastic, and reliable Program Instructors to join our team. Under the direction of the Executive Director and Lead Program Instructor, the Program Instructor is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and implementing meaningful activities that promote independence, self-esteem, personal growth, and community inclusion for adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.
The successful candidates will encourage individual and group goal achievement by creating engaging experiences that reflect COED's vision, mission, and values while fostering a safe, inclusive, and person-centered environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate engaging activities by creating and following daily plans that align with participants' individual goals and group objectives. (leisure, music, cooking, fitness, computers and community engagement)
- Recognize barriers to participation and adapt activities to promote accessibility and inclusion.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment for all participants.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with participants, families, caregivers, coworkers, volunteers, students, and community partners.
- Encourage participants to develop positive relationships within their families and the broader community.
- Promote and model healthy lifestyles, positive behaviour, and respectful interactions.
- Train, mentor, monitor, and evaluate placement students and volunteers.
- Administer basic first aid as required and monitor participants with seizure disorders according to established protocols.
- Complete incident reports and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Apply crisis prevention and intervention strategies when required.
- Maintain accurate daily documentation, participant records, and program files.
- Assist with the planning, organization, setup, and implementation of fundraising events while encouraging participant involvement.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of program areas, equipment, and shared workspaces.
- Perform other duties and support organizational initiatives as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Social Service Worker (SSW), Personal Support Worker (PSW), Human Services, Educational Assistant, or a related field.
- Experience supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a community-based setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of person-directed planning, community inclusion, and rights-based supports.
- Understanding of the Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, 2008.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a collaborative team environment.
Requirements
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Current CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) Certification or willingness to obtain.
- Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
