Department: Emergency & Critical Care Unit Composite
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge:
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate obtained within the past 1 year required
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certificate obtained within the past 2 years required
- Recent (within the past 2–3 years) Coronary Care Course (minimum 25 hours) and/or Lead II/12 Lead Interpretation Course (minimum 25 hours) required
- Minimum 2–3 years of Medical/Surgical experience required
- Recent (within the past 2–3 years) Critical Care and Emergency experience (minimum 1 year) required
- Must have or be able to obtain certification in added nursing skills and delegated medical acts specific to the Emergency Department and Coronary Care Unit by the end of the orientation period, including:
- Cardioversion/Defibrillation
- Application of External Pacemaker
- Arterial Line Management
- Administration of Emergency Drugs
- Ventilator Management
- Demonstrated ability to assume the Unit Leader role, triage and prioritize patient care, and participate in client/family teaching required
- Must be able to function both independently and as an active member of the multidisciplinary team in caring for critically ill patients within a total patient care environment required
- Must be involved in continuing education on an annual basis and demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement required
- Good attendance and work record required
- Courses in Critical Care Nursing, Emergency Nursing, Trauma Nursing Core Course TNCC), Coronary Care, and Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
- Experience in Mental Health Nursing preferred
- Must demonstrate commitment to ensuring their safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
- Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and the prevention of adverse health events within the organization
- Computer application experience required
- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
