About Pairenthesis
Pairenthesis is a governed data operations platform for organizations that must defend every number — government, financial services, healthcare, and critical infrastructure. Every figure is computed in a deterministic grounding gate before any AI model is invoked. We are deployed with federal and enterprise clients and scaling the engineering team.
About the Role
You will be the first senior engineering hire. You will own the full stack — from sovereign cloud infrastructure (AWS ca-central-1) to the deterministic grounding gate to the plain-language query engine that lets non-technical analysts ask questions without writing SQL or Python. You will work directly with the founders to ship production features for federal and enterprise clients.
This is not a role where you inherit a codebase and maintain it. You will architect, build, and deploy systems that process data for a federal government department. The bar is high. The surface area is wide. The impact is immediate.
What You'll Do
- Design and build production features across the full stack: data ingestion, deterministic compute engine, query resolution, audit ledger, data analysis pipelines, and front-end interface
- Extend the sovereign deployment architecture for new regulated clients across government and financial services
- Build and optimize the Company Lexicon — a custom context layer per organization that compounds over time
- Implement and maintain the immutable, hash-linked audit chain that records every computation
- Ship bilingual (EN/FR) features for federal deployments
- Collaborate directly with federal government stakeholders during client onboarding and production
- Evaluate, integrate, and constrain AI models within the deterministic grounding gate — the AI narrates, it never fabricates
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of full-stack engineering experience in production environments
- Strong backend: Python or Node.js, PostgreSQL or similar, REST/GraphQL APIs
- Strong frontend: React or Vue, responsive design, component architecture
- Experience deploying and managing production workloads on AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, or equivalent)
- Experience with at least one of: NLP/LLM integration, vector databases, data pipeline architecture, data analysis and visualization
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in small teams with high ownership
Preferred Qualifications
- AI/ML research background — publications, research assistantships, or applied ML in production
- Experience with deterministic or rule-based systems alongside probabilistic models
- Experience in regulated industries: government, healthcare, financial services, defense
- Familiarity with compliance and security frameworks (SOC 2, FedRAMP, PIPEDA)
- Bilingual English/French (an asset for federal deployments, not required for this role)
- Previous experience as an early-stage hire (Series A/B or pre-seed/seed)
Why This Role
You will not be employee #47 building a feature nobody uses. You are building the compute layer that a federal government department relies on to make decisions. Your code will be audited, your architecture will be stress-tested by procurement officers, and your grounding gate will be the reason a CDO trusts the platform. If you want to build infrastructure that matters, this is the role.
