Reporting to the Care Manager of Addiction and Mental Health Supported Living, the Recreational Therapist (RecT) is a key member of an interdisciplinary team supporting individuals with addiction and/or mental health concerns living in community-based transitional and permanent harm reduction housing. The RecT provides holistic assessment, intervention, and evaluation services within a wellness-oriented, collaborative model that recognizes each individual’s unique strengths and goals. Interventions are tailored to client needs and self-identified goals and may include urgent response, ongoing support, or short-term consultation. The RecT delivers direct client care, collaborates with team members, families, and community partners, and helps develop natural supports to maximize independence and self-management. The role also involves participating in innovative, evidence-informed practices, quality improvement, research, and evaluation initiatives. The RecT is responsible for expanding recreational opportunities within the program area and developing programming that promotes hope, self-identity, personal meaning, and responsibility. Activities are designed to support recovery, engagement, and overall well-being. This position supports two supported living sites. Anderson Hall, located on the Royal Alexandra Hospital campus, is a semi-independent apartment program that assists clients transitioning to independent living through treatment planning and clinical support. The second site is a new housing initiative serving clients who have historically struggled to maintain stable housing and participate in treatment programming. Recreational programming at Anderson Hall focuses on community integration and participation, while programming at the new site is primarily delivered onsite to enhance engagement and support recovery.
