Overview
The District of Fort St. James is seeking a full-time, permanent, Legislative Assistant. The successful candidate will report to the Corporate Officer. The Legislative Assistant is responsible for assisting the Corporate Officer with council meetings and agenda packages, facilitating meeting invites, meeting minutes, research, community engagement, completing reports, registration and travel arrangements for elected officials and staff, assisting with the Front Counter, and some accounts payable.
Duties
The Legislative Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day tasks and activities of the Administration Department. Frontline and administrative tasks include:
· Assist with accounts payable
· Prepare Council agenda packages
· Research special projects and ongoing departmental functions
· Facilitate meetings and reminders for Council and various committees.
· Attend Council meetings and take minutes
· Post-Council correspondence
· Be responsible for setting up Council Chambers for virtual meetings
· Co-ordinate public notifications required through legislation via weekly newspaper and other media
· Assist with public engagement practices and strategies
· Track Freedom of Information requests as well as carry out Privacy Impact Assessments on an on-going basis
· Registration and travel and arrangements for elected officials and staff
· Assist with front counter tasks as back up for the Office Assistant I position.
· Provide general office administration assistance as required
· Other duties as assigned.
Pay: $35.56 per hour
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Fort St James, BC: reliably commute or be willing to relocate with an employer-provided relocation package (preferred)

- Do you have a valid Class 5 or Class 7 Driver's License (required)
