The Role:
Are you a patient focused Lab Technician with medical administration experience and excellent communication skills?
KMH Cardiology Centres Inc. is growing and we are recruiting for a Full-time Lab Technician/Holters for our busy specialist physician practices in North York and Markham.
This role is primarily focused on ambulatory monitors’ installation and downloads. The role also performs resting 12-Lead electrocardiographic procedures independently to assist the physician with the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
The Accountabilities:
The key accountabilities of the Lab Technician/Holters role include:
Diagnostic Testing
- Obtain high-quality resting 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings.
- Install Holter and ambulatory blood pressure monitors and download recorded data.
- Display strong arrhythmia recognition skills.
- Provide physicians with ECG tracings and blood pressure measurements.
- Conduct diagnostic tests in accordance with CSCT standards and KMH protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Instruct and support patients on ambulatory monitoring procedures and the use of equipment, ensuring proper fitting for patient comfort and safety.
- Apply sound clinical judgment and critical thinking during testing to ensure all appropriate diagnostic data is accurately captured.
- Consult with ECG Technologists, Team Leads, supervising physicians, and on-site specialists regarding abnormal studies, quality assurance, and procedural guidance.
Patient Care & Clinical Support
- Coordinate patient care throughout their appointment, including checking patients in, preparing and escorting them to examination rooms, preparing examination or treatment rooms, answering questions, providing post-appointment support, and monitoring the waiting room.
- Interview patients and obtain the required medical history.
- Answer patient enquiries by phone and in person in a helpful, respectful, courteous, and empathetic manner.
- Assist ECG Technologists with daily operations and patient care.
- Help facilitate efficient patient flow.
- Ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
Documentation & Administration
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records, including patient charts, referrals, scanning, uploading, and faxing documentation in support of patient care.
Equipment & Clinic Operations
- Maintain examination rooms and work areas in a clean, organized, and well-stocked condition before, during, and after each shift.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained in good working order and assist with maintaining an appropriate inventory of routine supplies.
Teamwork & Professional Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and other KMH staff to support exceptional patient care while fostering a collegial and respectful clinic environment.
- Attend team meetings and departmental updates
Minimum qualifications:
- Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent
- Certified Lab Technician (MLPAO, CSMLS or OSMT)
The Requirements
- ECG and Ambulatory Monitors experience is an asset
- Clinic experience is an asset
- Proven ability to work proficiently in a busy fast paced specialist clinic environment
- Self-directed, detail oriented with an ability to multitask, establish priorities and achieve objectives with minimal supervision
- BLS
- Phlebotomy experience is an asset
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good telephone etiquette
- Proficiency in technology including MS Office and EMR systems experience
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
- Able to deal with sensitive information with a high degree of diplomacy
- Team orientation
- The ability to provide coverage at both KMH North York and KMH Markham

This is a full-time role scheduled for 5 days/37.5 hours per week:
Monday- Friday: 8.00 a.m.-4.00/4.30 p.m.
Saturday’s are required on rotation with the team.
This position reports to the Technical Manager: ECG.
