Overview
Hummingbird Early Learning Centre is seeking a dedicated and experienced Daycare Cook & Program Enhancement (Level 1-3) to join our team.
This role combines meal preparation and kitchen management with program support throughout the Centre. The successful candidate will prepare nutritious meals and snacks for children, maintain high standards of food safety and cleanliness, and assist educators with a variety of program enhancement duties.

Responsibilities
Kitchen & Food Service
- Prepare and serve nutritious, age-appropriate meals and snacks in accordance with dietary guidelines and food safety standards.
- Plan and prepare menus with consideration for allergies, dietary restrictions, and nutritional requirements.
- Ensure proper food handling, storage, sanitation, and hygiene practices at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including dishwashing, sanitizing surfaces, and inventory management.
- Monitor kitchen supplies and assist with ordering and restocking as needed.
- Adhere to all applicable health and safety regulations.
Program Enhancement & Centre Support
- Support educators by assisting with classroom activities, transitions, and daily routines.
- Help create and facilitate engaging experiences for children.
- Support staff breaks and planning time as required.
- Assist with Centre organization, laundry, cleaning, and other operational tasks.
- Participate in field trips and special events.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure the smooth operation of the Centre.
Qualifications
- Experience in food preparation, cooking, food service, or a related field. Experience in a childcare, school, camp, or restaurant setting is considered an asset.
- Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain certification through an approved Alberta Food Safety course).
- Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and allergy management.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine interest in supporting children's health, nutrition, and development.
Certification Information
Applicants do not require an Alberta Early Childhood Educator certification to apply.
Candidates without certification may work toward obtaining their Level 1 Early Childhood Educator certification upon hire.
Please note that the cooking responsibilities alone are considered a part-time role (up to 30 hours per week). The addition of Program Enhancement responsibilities creates a full-time position of up to 35 hours per week.
Pay: $18.00 per hour
