Job description
The Code Brew Café, located in the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH), is searching for an energetic and upbeat individual to fill a full time barista position. This position to start as soon as possible, must be available weekdays. Code Brew is more than a standard coffee shop, it is a social enterprise that is owned and operated by the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation, with proceeds directed to the purchase of medical equipment.
The ideal candidate would enjoy working in a busy and diverse environment, have a strong work ethic, be dependable and demonstrate excellent communication/customer service skills.
Responsibilities and Duties include:
· Preparing and serving specialty coffee/tea beverages and food items
· Performing opening/closing procedures
· Greeting and interacting with a wide variety of customers
· Following Island Health guidelines for health and safety
· Contributing to an energetic and friendly team environment
· Capability to remain calm under pressure
· Some lifting is required for putting away product / moving coffee urns, etc.
Requirements:
· Full Covid-19 Vaccinations (requirement by VIHA to work in a hospital)
· Current flu shot (requirement by VIHA to work in a hospital)
· Valid Food Safe Level 1 certificate
· Previous barista and/or customer service experience
· Willingness to learn about the food and beverage industry
· Able to stand for extended period of time, and perform light lifting as needed
· Desire to work for an amazing social enterprise that helps to give back to the NRGH and the Nanaimo area.
This position is permanent part-time and shifts will include early morning, day, afternoon, evening and weekends. The cafes hours are from 6:30am to 7:30pm, 7 days a week. Some shifts do not accommodate the bus schedule.
