THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is a highly skilled, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast paced, deadline driven organization. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company ensuring accurate financial reporting budgeting and compliance with regulatory standards. This role will manage the accounting team, help streamline business and financial process and provide strategic financial insights to the senior leadership team. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of financial principles, and a proven ability to manage financial operations in a fast-paced environment.
You may be an Assistant Controller or Accounting Manager ready to step into broader leadership, or a Controller earlier in your career seeking increased ownership and decision-making responsibility. Either way, you’re ready to play a key role in helping shape the financial future of a growing, Canadian family-owned design and production company specializing in custom display manufacturing.
Partnering closely with the CFO and senior leadership, you’ll strengthen financial visibility and build and/ or strengthen scalable systems and processes that support continued growth. You will also lead and motivate a small, dedicated accounting/ finance team, fostering accountability, professional development, and a collaborative, high-performance culture.
You bring proven experience collaborating with leadership and an exceptional ability to build trusted relationships at all levels of the organization. You thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and work confidently across cross-functional teams to deliver accurate reporting, enhance controls, and continuously improve reporting, systems and processes.
In this hybrid role, you'll spend 3 days a week working from our Scarborough office and 2 days working remotely from home.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT
- Developing and maintaining financial reporting systems to drive accurate, timely and efficient recording and reporting of all organizational financial transactions (in accordance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises.
- Preparing financial statements, forecasts and budgets to support annual financial planning and performance in order to help guide organizational decision-making
- Developing and maintaining financial models to evaluate business performance, reporting and driving or supporting resulting actions.
- Conducting financial analyses to understand profitability and identify areas of opportunity and/ or improvement.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure that financial results align with overall organizational strategies/ goals and support development and maintenance of related reporting.
- Managing cash flow and financial risks, ensuring the Company’s financial health.
- Oversee corporate payroll processing in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Protects organizational assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and accounting standards.
- Prepare and manage deliverables and relationships with internal and external partners, including financial institutions, auditors/ accountants, Canada Revenue Agency, Statistics Canada, customers and vendors.
- Supervise, mentor and develop the accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust, motivation and productivity.
- Develop, document, and oversee accounting training programs.
- Undertake special projects surrounding the organizational systems and processes which drive financial results.
- Protects the corporation by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
YOU’LL SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE
- Post-secondary education in Accounting or Business with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
- Accounting Designation from a recognized accounting organization is preferred
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Power BI
- ERP system experience especially for manufacturing
- Critical thinking and analytical skills
- Strong Leadership and supervisory skills required
- Strong interpersonal and communication, both written and verbal
- Strong negotiation and relationship building skills
- Strong prioritization, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Historical experience developing and documenting business systems and processes is an asset

Compensation
We strive to offer compensation that is fair, competitive, and reflective of each individual’s experience and contributions. Compensation will vary based on experience and skill level (Developing, Proficient, Highly Proficient, Expert, Management, Senior Leader). Candidates who are continuing to develop key skills may be considered below the range, while those who bring specialized expertise, exceptional impact, or deep industry knowledge may be considered above it.
The target compensation for this role is $100,000 to $150,000 annually and reflects a professional at a Proficient level.
