About the Clients:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver to support both parents who are experiencing dementia symptoms, with one parent significantly more advanced than the other. One parent has been wandering, which requires careful supervision and safety awareness. - Assist with daytime care 1-2 days per week
- Help with bathing and personal hygiene
- Prepare light meals, including reheating food and providing mealtime reminders
- Manage medication reminders and assist with medication administration
- Complete cleaning and laundry tasks throughout the home
- Provide memory prompts and gentle redirection as needed
- Maintain a calm, patient presence that helps both parents feel comfortable and secure
What We're Looking For:
- Proven experience caring for individuals with dementia, particularly those with wandering behaviors
- Ability to provide care for two clients simultaneously with different levels of need
- Portuguese language fluency for effective communication
- Availability for overnight shifts and flexible daytime hours
- Patient, calm demeanor with the ability to handle challenging behaviors
- Takes initiative and can work independently while maintaining clear communication with the family
- Experience with personal care, medication management, and household tasks
- Strong understanding of dementia care best practices and safety protocols
This is a first-time care situation for the family, who are exploring options to provide better support for their parents while also getting the help and respite they need. The family has noticed increasing memory changes and safety concerns, prompting their search for reliable, skilled care. They value a caregiver who respects their parents' independence while ensuring their safety and comfort.
Schedule:
The position starts with 1-2 daytime shifts per week and 2-3 overnight shifts per week, with potential to adjust hours as needs evolve. Specific days and times are flexible and can be discussed to find a schedule that works for both the family and the caregiver.
