This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 2 June 2026 and closing at 11:59 pm on 9 June 2026.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a member of the interprofessional team, you will; provide client-centred addictions, mental health, and general nursing care; ensure the security and safety of clients; and maintain the CNO standards of nursing practice. You will be responsible for providing clinical care to clients in the Residential Withdrawal Management Services (RWMS) unit at 300 Centre Street South, Oshawa. Clients are admitted to RWMS for support during active withdrawal and often have concurrent mental health and general health needs. You will work with Addictions Counsellors as well as consulting Nurse Practitioners (NP) and Addiction Medicine Physician. As the sole nurse on shift 24/7, you will actively contribute to the treatment approach for the unit. You will perform assessments as well as help develop, implement and evaluate the interprofessional plan of client care. You will also be responsible for participating in role development, which could include: contacting and/or shadowing nurses in other residential withdrawal programs, learning about community resources, developing daily routines and protocols, providing input into the development/review of policies, and assisting to redefine the model of care within this well-established unit. You will require excellent interpersonal skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing) is required;
- Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college is required;
- Current B.C.L.S. certificate is required;
- Minimum of one (1) year of recent hospital-based adult mental health nursing experience is preferred;
- Completion of a mental health nursing certificate (or equivalent continuing education) is required;
- Completion of a prevention and management of aggressive behaviour program through Lakeridge Health or equivalent is required;
- Current Medication Administration Certificate (plus related medication knowledge and administration experience with the last year) is required;
- Suboxone training course completed or commitment to complete (online) within six months of hire;
- Fundamentals of addiction course completed or commitment to complete (online) within six months of hire;
- Recent experience with diabetes care and health teaching preferred;
- Recent experience with wound care preferred;
- Ability to lift, turn, transfer clients with the use of mechanical lifts;
- Demonstrated skills in providing client education and sharing knowledge of expected outcomes and care;
- Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations;
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position;
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community;
- Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public.;
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participation in regular in service education sessions in this area;
