Position Overview
The Facilities Housekeeping position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, welcoming and well-maintained environment across YMCA facilities. This role contributes to a positive experience for members, participants, employees and visitors by ensuring assigned areas are maintained to YMCA standards.
Core Responsibilities & Duties
- Services, cleans and supplies locker rooms, public restrooms, etc.
- Launders towels.
- Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming.
- Gathers and empties trash.
- Cleans and polishes fixtures.
- Cleans windows, glass partitions and mirrors.
- Dusts furniture, walls, machines and equipment.
- Mixes water and detergents according to specifications to prepare cleaning solutions.
- Attends staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required.
Skills & Qualifications
- Previous cleaning or housekeeping experience in a commercial, recreational or similar environment is an asset.
- WHMIS training is an asset, training will be provided if not already certified.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
- Flexibility regarding assigned work schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends.
- Valid driver's license and access to own transportation.
- First Aid/CPR/AED or willingness to obtain.
- Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and clearance from the Department of Social Development.

Working Conditions
- This is a hands-on position, with the majority of working time spent performing or directly supporting cleaning operations;
- Work takes place across multiple YMCA locations and may include early mornings, evenings and weekends based on operational needs;
- The position requires regular standing, walking, bending, lifting and reaching and the safe use of commercial cleaning products and equipment;
- Travel between assigned YMCA locations is required;
- First Aid/CPR certification may be required; and
