Job Summary
The Retail Sales Associate will assist customers with product selection, answer questions, process sales, maintain department standards, and support the overall daily operations of the store. The ideal candidate has previous retail experience in hardware, building supply, plumbing, electrical, tools, or a related trade environment. This role is best suited for someone who enjoys helping customers, learning products, solving problems, and working in a fast-paced hardware/building supply environment.
Responsibilities
- Greet and assist customers in a professional and friendly manner
- Provide knowledgeable advice on plumbing, electrical, hardware, tools, fasteners, seasonal products, and related building supplies
- Help contractors and homeowners find the right products for their projects
- Process sales accurately through the POS system
- Answer product, pricing, stock, and availability questions
- Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked departments
- Receive, price, stock, and merchandise products as needed
- Assist with inventory counts and product ordering support
- Help load or move products when required
- Communicate with managers and team members regarding customer needs, product issues, and stock shortages
- Follow company policies, safety procedures, and customer service standards
Requirements
- Previous retail sales experience required
- Experience in hardware, plumbing, electrical, building materials, tools, or contractor supply strongly preferred
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Comfortable working with homeowners, contractors, and tradespeople
- Good problem-solving skills and product knowledge
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Reliable, punctual, and accountable
- Comfortable using a POS system and basic computer programs
- Able to lift and move products when required
- Willing to work weekdays, weekends, and retail hours as scheduled
- Plumbing product knowledge
- Electrical product knowledge
- Hardware, tools, fasteners, paint, seasonal, or building supply knowledge
- Experience working in a contractor desk, hardware store, Home Depot, RONA, Home Hardware, Canadian Tire, lumber yard, or trade supply environment
- Forklift experience is an asset, but not required
Pay: $18.00-$25.00 per hour
