About This Position
Gloria’s Place is a specialized residential care home in Winnipeg serving Inuit youth whose medical, developmental, and emotional needs require long-term support away from their home communities. Be Well School has been engaged to design and manage an individualized educational program for the young people in residence.
We are seeking a skilled, patient, and culturally responsive Educator to serve as the educational facilitator of this program. This is not a conventional classroom role. You will work in a home environment with a small cohort of up to 5 Inuit youth and young adults, facilitating asynchronous online coursework through established platforms (such as Ontario Virtual School, InformNet Manitoba, and Nunavut Online Learning), while delivering structured life skills and life/work transition programming that prepares each student for meaningful independence.
Be Well School provides all IEP and IAP preparation, ongoing coaching and supervision, curriculum frameworks, and quarterly program reviews. The Educator brings daily presence, relational skill, and facilitation expertise. You will be supported by the Be Well School team and the Gloria’s Place team.
Successful Candidate Profile
- You are eager to use your skills as an expert educator to meet the unique needs of a small group of young people
- You see strengths before you see needs
- You know that completing a worksheet sometimes looks like a walk and talk for a learner who needs to move
- You know that completing an evaluation is sometimes an informal discussion on a swing-set without calling it outwardly a “test” and creating test anxiety
- You know that learning takes time and understanding, and can manifest itself in a variety of creative ways
- You look for progress and process rather than immediate outcome and mastery
- You understand that the learning is more important than the teaching
- You see the bright side of situations and recognize them
- You understand that everyone feels appreciated in different ways and you make mental notes of that
- You are very patient, empathetic, and understanding
- You recognize that each student is unique in their learning profile and that adaptations aren’t an afterthought but rather part of your planning
