The Monteith Correctional Complex with the Ministry of the Solicitor General is seeking an experienced laundry professional to provide full laundry services for the facility and supervise inmate helpers.
The Monteith Correctional Complex is seeking a reliable and experienced laundry professional to support the effective operation of the facility.
In this role, you will be responsible for delivering full laundry services and providing day-to-day supervision to inmate helpers in a safe and structured environment.
How You Will Contribute
- You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the facility's laundry services.
- You will supervise, train, and provide direction to assigned work groups of inmate helpers in approved laundering methods and techniques.
- You will assist with, and/or oversee, the receiving, sorting, processing, and distribution of laundry throughout the facility.
Note
This position involves working directly with and providing direction to inmate helpers and is eligible for a Custodial Responsibility Allowance.
- You have demonstrated knowledge of and experience with laundry processes including treatment of different fabrics and materials, use of cleaning products and chemicals, and the operation of specialized equipment (i.e. industrial washing machines, industrial dryers, sewing machines)
- You are able to obtain and apply knowledge of organizational policies and protocols to ensure safety and security of inmate helpers and work area
- You have the ability to efficiently receive, sort, process, and distribute high volumes of laundry in a fast-paced environment.
- You have knowledge of health and safety requirements, including WHMIS, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the use of safety data sheets (e.g., MSDS/SDS).
- You can supervise and train inmate helpers in laundry procedures as well as provide input on inmate helper performance reports
- You can interact cooperatively with all levels of correctional facility staff
- You are able to report laundry equipment malfunctions as well as maintain records and logs
- You have problem-solving and analytical skills to address issues related to daily operation of laundry services
- You have organizational skills to determine priorities when scheduling laundry production, review requests and coordinate pick-up and delivery of laundry
- You have computer skills to update and maintain necessary laundry room inventories and support admission and discharge procedures
