The Kimmirut Housing Association is seeking a skilled and reliable Carpenter to join our maintenance team on a full-time contract for 6 months to 1 year, with an immediate start.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a northern community where your skills will directly contribute to maintaining and improving public housing. We are looking for an individual who takes pride in quality workmanship, works well independently and as part of a team, and is committed to providing excellent service.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Performing residential repairs, renovations, and general carpentry work.
- Installing and repairing doors, windows, flooring, cabinets, trim, drywall, and other building components.
- Framing, finishing, and completing interior and exterior carpentry projects.
- Assessing maintenance issues and recommending appropriate repairs.
- Reading and interpreting drawings, work orders, and project specifications.
- Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
- Maintaining tools, equipment, and a clean work environment.
- Working collaboratively with other maintenance staff and trades to complete projects on schedule.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- Journeyperson Carpenter certification or equivalent experience.
- Several years of experience in residential construction and maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of carpentry methods, materials, and building practices.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Good problem-solving and communication skills.
- A valid driver's licence (preferred).
- A commitment to workplace safety.
Experience working in remote or northern communities is considered an asset but is not required.
Compensation & Benefits
- $46.93 per hour
- Northern Allowance in addition to hourly wage
- Full-time contract (6 months to 1 year)
