We are looking to hire an experienced
Controller to lead our client’s accounting and financial operations team (up to 10). This role is responsible for full cycle accounting reconciliation and close and financial reporting, maintaining effective internal controls, managing budgeting and forecasting processes, supporting strategic decision-making through financial analysis, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Manage external accounting service providers and outsourced financial functions.
- Lead and oversee the accounting team, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and General Accounting.
- Oversee accounting operations for all legal entities, ensuring consistent controls and procedures.
- Ensure timely payment of accounts payable and maximize available vendor discounts.
- Monitor accounts receivable collections and cash flow activities.
- Oversee accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Ensure bank reconciliations are completed on schedule.
- Monitor debt obligations and ensure timely payments and covenant compliance.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and an organized accounting records system.
- Ensure appropriate controls are in place over all accounting transactions.
- Prepare and deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Coordinate the preparation of annual corporate financial reports.
- Develop and monitor key financial and operational performance metrics.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting activities.
- Analyze budget variances and provide recommendations to management.
- Prepare management reports and conduct financial analysis related to capital investments, pricing, profitability, and contract evaluations.
- Coordinate annual audits and act as the primary contact for external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with all provincial and federal reporting requirements, tax filings, payroll remittances, and Workers’ Compensation obligations.
- Support departmental objectives and perform additional duties as required.
- Promote workplace health and safety by ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable legislation.
- Ensure employees receive appropriate safety training and follow safe work practices.
- Maintain accountability for the health and safety of team members and work environments.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- CPA, CMA, or equivalent designation completed or at final stage of completion
- Experience in transportation, logistics, warehousing, 3PL, or related industries, including asset-based and non-asset-based operations.
- Strong experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and cost management.
- Proficiency in financial modeling, pricing analysis, margin management, and profitability optimization.
- Must have previous experience with managing multiple legal entities and/or divisions, BUs, or sites
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with all levels of an organization.
- Collaborative leadership style with a strong service-oriented approach. Must have proven on-site leadership/team management experience of 5+
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word.
- Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), or similar software is considered an asset
