SGS Qualitest Canada Ltd. is seeking a motivated and safety-focused NDT Technician Level II to join our growing British Columbia operations. The successful candidate will perform non-destructive testing and inspection services in both shop and field environments across a wide range of industries including structural steel, manufacturing, pipelines, pressure equipment, marine, rail, mining, oil & gas, power generation, and infrastructure projects.
This position is primarily based in Surrey, BC, supporting projects throughout the Lower Mainland, with regular travel to Vancouver Island and the BC Interior as required. The ideal candidate is technically competent, customer-focused, and committed to delivering high-quality inspection services while maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform non-destructive examinations using:
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
- Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)
- Visual Inspection (VT)
- Perform inspections in accordance with applicable CSA, AWS, ASME, API, ASTM, client specifications, and company procedures.
- Conduct welding inspections and prepare accurate inspection reports.
- Evaluate inspection results and identify discontinuities or non-conformances.
- Operate, maintain, and verify calibration status of NDT equipment.
- Coordinate inspection activities with clients, project managers, engineers, fabricators, and contractors.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with SGS quality management and safety requirements.
- Maintain complete and accurate inspection records and documentation.
- Participate in field mobilizations throughout British Columbia, including occasional overnight travel.
- Promote a strong safety culture while maintaining exceptional customer service.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist in developing inspection procedures when required.
Required Qualifications
- CGSB Level II certification in:
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
- Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)
- CSA W178.2 Level II Welding Inspector
- Minimum 3 years of NDT experience preferred (junior technicians with the required certifications are encouraged to apply)
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driving record
- Strong understanding of welding inspection principles and applicable industry codes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Willingness to travel throughout British Columbia
Preferred Qualifications (Assets)
- NACE Coating Inspector Level II
- API 510, API 570, API 653, or other API certifications
- IRATA Rope Access Certification
- Confined Space Entry
- Fall Protection
- CSTS 2020
- H2S Alive
- Additional CGSB certifications (ET, RT, etc.)
- Experience working in structural steel fabrication, pipelines, pressure vessels, manufacturing, marine, rail, mining, oil & gas, power generation, or bridge and infrastructure projects
Work Schedule
- Full-time, permanent position
- Day, afternoon, night, weekend, and statutory holiday work as required
- Overtime available after regular working hours
- Local travel throughout the Lower Mainland and regular travel across British Columbia, including Vancouver Island and the Interior
