Thompson Construction Group is seeking a Temporary Recruiter for a six-month term, with the possibility of extension based on business needs and performance. Based in Spruce Grove, this role will primarily support the recruitment of heavy equipment operators and skilled craft positions across our construction operations.
The Recruiter will work closely with the Manager, Talent Acquisition and field leadership to source, screen, and coordinate the hiring of high-volume field positions. This is a fast-paced recruitment role requiring strong communication, organization, and the ability to build relationships with candidates in the skilled trades and heavy civil construction industry.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit heavy equipment operators, including dozer, excavator, grader, loader, and haul truck operators
- Recruit skilled craft positions such as labourers, pipefitters, welders, mechanics, and other construction trades
- Source candidates through job boards, social media, databases, referrals, networking, and other recruitment channels
- Review resumes and conduct phone screens to assess experience, qualifications, availability, and suitability
- Coordinate interviews, reference checks, pre-employment requirements, and offer documentation
- Maintain an active pipeline of qualified operators and craft candidates to support project ramp-ups and workforce requirements
- Build and maintain relationships with candidates and skilled trades professionals
- Attend career fairs, hiring events, and recruitment initiatives as required
- Maintain accurate candidate records and recruitment tracking systems
- Provide timely communication to candidates, hiring managers, and the HR team throughout the recruitment process
- Support recruitment strategies and initiatives to improve candidate attraction and hiring timelines
Qualifications & Experience:
- 1–3 years of recruitment or HR experience, preferably in construction, heavy civil, skilled trades, or a high-volume recruitment environment
- Experience recruiting heavy equipment operators or skilled trades is considered a strong asset
- Knowledge of heavy civil construction equipment, trades, and field operations is an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with field candidates
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple vacancies and competing priorities
- Strong attention to detail and professionalism
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
