About the Organization
Labour Community Services of Peel (LCSP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting marginalized workers within the Region of Peel. LCSP provides legal information, education, advocacy, and representation in the areas of employment law, human rights, and income supports. The Community Educator & Caseworker role is responsible for supporting community education work related to legal education and community capacity building. This position will also be responsible for community outreach via phone calls, emails, social media, and other digital tools. You would also help with organizing events and facilitating meetings. In addition, this position will also include some casework related to assisting community members with filling forms and filing claims. Labour Community Services of Peel (LCSP) is a project of the Peel Regional Labour Council and a member agency of United Way of Peel Region. It also receives funding from the Department of Justice.
Responsibilities
Intake & Casework
· Answer phone calls from workers to provide information about the agency, provide legal information related to employment law and income supports, schedule intakes, and take messages;
· Assist with navigating government programs and income supports;
· Assist with letter-writing, form-filling, and filing claims;
· Interview clients to obtain case-specific history and relevant background information;
· Assess clients’ need as it relates to legal education, information, and other supportive measures;
· Assist clients in locating and utilizing community resources including legal, medical, and financial assistance, housing, employment, transportation, assistance with moves, day care and other referral services;
· Prepare client intake reports and forward file to applicable department/worker;
· Counsel clients according to findings to properly manage client expectations;
· Maintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation, research, and funding;
· Perform other duties as required.
Community Education and Advocacy
· Outreach to inform the public of LCSP’s services and programs, including through ethnic radio, print media, and social media;
· Produce social media shareables related to the agency’s work and community campaigns;
· Deliver Know Your Rights at Work workshops with partner agencies;
· Meet with workers to provide information, training, and workshops related to relevant laws and programs, law reform, advocacy, and community organizing;
· Facilitate meetings and workshops to build leadership, knowledge and skills of community members to advocate for themselves;
· Help facilitate and support community organizing, and law reform efforts based on community members’ input on how to reduce barriers to justice;
· Produce anonymized reports on worker-identified barriers to justice to spur policy-level improvements.
· Help gather and prepare statistics relevant to LCSP’s clients, services, and funding requirements.
Qualifications
· 3+ years of work experience in a field related to human rights, unions, social justice, employment law, or work with vulnerable communities;
· Completion of a college or university program preferred; social work or legal background is an asset
· Experience with working in a diverse community with knowledge of anti-oppressive and trauma-informed practice;
· Experience delivering or facilitating workshop, training, publics meetings, or other gatherings;
· Fluency in a second language, in particular, Punjabi is an asset;
· Full G driver license is an asset;
· Strong written and verbal communication skills;
· Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team;
· Demonstrated excellence in organizational and time management skills;
· Strong knowledge of social media and other digital media tools is an asset;
· Experienced working in a unionized environment an asset.

Salary: $62,000 with Benefits and Pension Contributions
