About the Client:
We are seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 83-year-old woman recently diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. She lives with her husband in a two-story home in Burlington, though they primarily use the main floor which is equipped with grab bars and accommodates her walker. While she remains cognitively sharp and handles most daily tasks independently, she experiences some short-term memory challenges and fluctuating motivation. Her husband, who is active but feeling overwhelmed with caregiving responsibilities, needs support to ease his burden. The client enjoys conversation and responds well to caregivers with positive energy and patience.
Responsibilities:
- Transport client to physiotherapy appointments (15 minutes away, 3-4 times weekly) and coordinate timing to accommodate her exercise sessions
- Provide mobility assistance including support with transfers, getting up from chairs, navigating elevation changes, and steadying during movement
- Accompany client on daily walks around the neighborhood using her walker, ensuring safety and providing encouragement
- Assist with bathing and personal care as needed
- Provide medication reminders using pre-organized blister packs
- Prepare light meals, reheat food, and offer mealtime reminders
- Complete light housekeeping tasks and laundry during appointment wait times
- Offer memory prompts and gentle redirection when needed
- Run occasional errands as required
- Encourage participation in Parkinson's exercise classes as they become available
What We're Looking For:
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Experience supporting clients with Parkinson's disease or similar mobility challenges
- Patience and understanding when working with clients who may be resistant to activity or experiencing low motivation
- Ability to remain calm and professional around a spouse who may occasionally be impatient or grumpy
- Strong English communication skills
- Warm, positive demeanor that uplifts the client's spirits
- Reliability and consistency in scheduling
- Ability to take initiative while respecting the client's independence
- Comfort working in a home environment with both spouses present
Schedule:
Starting with 2 days per week, 4 hours per shift, with flexibility to increase to 4-5 days weekly as the family adjusts to care. Weekday availability required to coordinate with recurring physiotherapy appointments. Weekend coverage not needed as family members are available.
