About Habitat for Humanity Northwest Territories
Habitat for Humanity Northwest Territories (HFHNT) was established as a non-profit organization in 2013 and has evolved from a dedicated team of volunteers to a small staff team of two. HFHNT provides a hand up to homeowners to achieve strength, stability and independence to build a better life and financial future through affordable homeownership. With the support of community partners, HFHNT has built family homes in Dettah, Hay River and Yellowknife. HFHNT is one of 44 affiliates operating independently across Canada and is also a part of a national member organization of Habitat for Humanity International, which provides housing opportunities across more than 70 countries.
The Opportunity
The Homeownership & Outreach Coordinator supports the delivery of HFHNT’s Affordable Homeownership Program and community outreach. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Coordinator guides applicants and homeowners through the homeownership process and beyond, and supports community outreach and communications. This is a part-time (20 hours/week) work-from-home position based in Yellowknife, with occasional in-person meetings, events and travel to other NWT communities. One-year term with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities
Homeowner Support
- Lead homeowner recruitment and selection processes during active homeowner recruitment periods, serving as the primary point of contact for applicants, providing support and guidance throughout the application process.
- Review applications against eligibility criteria, verify applicant information, and collaborate with Family Selection committee to provide recommendations for homeownership.
- Provide ongoing support to homeowners after move in including monitoring volunteer-hour requirements, updating homeowner education materials, maintaining homeowner records in database, property management liaison, and other support as needed.
- Work with legal counsel to manage legal transfer of ownership and title to homeowners.
- Provide support and resources to homeowners experiencing financial difficulties or delinquent mortgage payments or who need special consideration.
- Oversee the management of annual income reviews and provide homeowners with annual mortgage statements.
- Calculate revised mortgage payments following annual income reviews in accordance with established HFHNT mortgage policies and maintain accurate mortgage records.
Communications & Outreach
These duties are performed as time and organizational priorities allow:
- Coordinate HFHNT’s website and social media activities.
- Assist with planning and execution of special events and fundraising campaigns.
Administration
- Maintain digital records, shared drives and organizational files.
- Support financial and funder reporting, policy updates, funding applications and preparation of board materials when requested by Executive Director.
- Coordinate mail and other routine administrative requirements.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Minimum four years of relevant experience in the non-profit, housing, social services, communications or financial sector. A combination of education, skills and experience may be considered.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a remote work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to support people with professionalism, compassion, discretion and empathy, including when handling confidential information or communicating difficult information.
- Ability to work respectfully and effectively with people from diverse cultural, socioeconomic and personal backgrounds.
- Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, OneDrive, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Experience developing social media content and supporting online engagement.
- Experience in mortgage administration, housing programs or client financial support is considered an asset.
- Experience working with Indigenous governments, communities or northern organizations, and knowledge of the social, cultural and housing context of the Northwest Territories, are considered assets.

Pay: $50,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
