At Uptown Montessori, located in the heart of North York, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing, respectful, and stimulating Montessori environment for children to explore, grow, and thrive. Guided by the Montessori philosophy and the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), we support the holistic development of each child and create a learning space that fosters independence, curiosity, and confidence.
We are currently seeking a caring and dependable Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) to join our passionate team of educators.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the RECE/Montessori teachers in implementing daily classroom activities that align with Montessori pedagogy and support children's learning and development.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom and outdoor environment in accordance with health and safety standards.
- Supervise children at all times and support their physical, emotional, and social well-being.
- Foster respectful, nurturing, and responsive relationships with children and families.
- Assist with daily routines including snack/lunch time, toileting, dressing, and transitions.
- Observe and document children’s interests and behaviours to support learning.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of Montessori materials and learning spaces.
- Work collaboratively with team members and participate in staff meetings, school open houses, and training sessions.
- Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and licensing regulations under the CCEYA and the Ministry of Education.
Qualifications
- Completion of an Early Childhood Assistant Certificate or at least two years experience working in a childcare setting.
- Experience working with young children in a licensed childcare or Montessori setting is an asset.
- Understanding or interest in the Montessori philosophy.
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
- Valid and current Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Up-to-date immunization and health records as required under Toronto Public Health regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Reliable, flexible, and committed to supporting a positive team environment.
Preferred Qualifications (Asset but not Required)
- Familiarity with the Montessori method and materials.
- Experience working with toddlers and preschool-aged children in a child-centred environment.
- Knowledge of the How Does Learning Happen? (HDLH) framework.
