Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Property Accountant to join our growing accounting team. This role is responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting of a portfolio of commercial and residential properties while supporting development and capital projects across the organization.
The ideal candidate enjoys taking ownership, solving problems, and delivering high-quality work. You’ll collaborate closely with operations, providing an excellent opportunity to broaden your experience beyond traditional property accounting.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting & Month-End Close
· Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate recording of all property-related financial transactions.
· Prepare monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting working papers.
· Prepare monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and reporting packages for assigned properties.
· Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, tenant accounts, and intercompany balances.
· Review general ledger activity and investigate unusual transactions or variances.
· Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes while ensuring reporting deadlines are met.
· Coordinate with operations teams to ensure complete and accurate financial reporting.
· Monitor capital expenditures ensuring they are appropriately recorded and capitalized.
Accounts Receivable
· Manage the full accounts receivable cycle, including tenant billings, operating cost recoveries, rent collections, cash receipts, account reconciliations, and follow-up of outstanding receivables.
· Review tenant accounts to ensure billing accuracy and timely collection of outstanding balances.
· Assist with tenant inquiries related to billing and account balances.
Accounts Payable
· Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice processing, payment preparation, vendor reconciliations, and maintaining accurate vendor records.
· Ensure invoices are properly coded, approved, and processed in accordance with company policies.
Budgeting & Forecasting
· Assist with the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets and ensuring completeness and accuracy.
Financial Analysis & Other Responsibilities
· Prepare monthly budget-to-actual variance analyses and provide commentary on significant fluctuations.
· Assist with external audits, tax reporting, and year-end working papers.
· Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
· Participate in special projects and other accounting initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications
· Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
· Minimum 2–4 years of accounting experience, preferably within commercial, residential, or real estate property management.
· Experience with Yardi Voyager is strongly preferred.
· Experience with commercial property accounting is preferred.
· Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
