Procurement Specialist
Reporting to: Plant Manager
Salary: $70,000.00 to $85,000.00
The position
The Procurement Specialist, will work with the Plant Manager and leadership team, to deliver operational procurement support for a vibrant and growing pork processing plant, to drive cost effectiveness and supplier performance, across the organization. The role requires hands-on sourcing and close collaboration with business stakeholders to ensure compliant, value-driven outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading end-to-end Request for Proposal (RFP) processes, including content development, analysis, supplier negotiations, and contracting.
- Assisting the entire organization in managing and negotiating various types of agreements.
- Ensuring that all manufacturing supplies are procured to secure production activities
- Coordinate and work together with the production Manager and Supervisors to monitor production supplies inventories ( uniforms, chemicals, carboards, boxes, wrapping, bags, etc)
- Monitoring contract expiration dates and proactively engaging with the business to renew agreements or initiate RFPs.
- Providing training and support on procurement systems and processes.
- Acting as the local expert for Purchase Order (PO), vendor setup, and operational purchasing processes.
- Analysing savings opportunities, tracking metrics, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams and suppliers to ensure compliance and optimise procurement strategies.
Qualifications & Skills
- Ideal candidate will have 2-4 years professional experience. Less experienced candidates with a hunger to learn should also apply.
- Post Secondary degree/diploma is strongly preferred in business administration, finance, logistics, purchasing, supply chain or similar fields.
- Strong verbal & written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to learn computer systems & teach others. Proficient in MS Excel. Experience with ERP platforms & MS Office Suite is preferred.
- Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Understand price trade offs & effectively negotiate toward win-win results.
- Knowledge and experience with drafting, interpreting, revising or otherwise working with contracts.
- Logical and effective problem-solving skills with strong analytical skills.
- Must be able to perform well under deadline constraints with high quality, detail-oriented work habits.
- Must be eligible to work in Canada without restriction.
- Strong teamwork, results orientation & service-oriented mindset.

- In person at plant location
- Office setting with some time in the plant
