Responsibilities
- Assist clients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote independence and dignity
- Support clients with medication administration according to care plans and safety protocols
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to dietary needs and preferences, ensuring proper hygiene and safety standards are maintained during meal times
- Provide companionship and emotional support to reduce feelings of loneliness and promote mental well-being
- Perform light housekeeping tasks including cleaning living areas, laundry, and maintaining a tidy environment to support overall health and safety
- Assist with mobility and transfers using proper techniques to prevent injury for both clients and caregivers
- Document care activities accurately in client records and communicate any changes or concerns to healthcare team members
Skills
- Proven experience working in assisted living facilities or nursing homes with seniors or individuals with disabilities
- Strong understanding of dementia care strategies and managing behaviors associated with cognitive decline
- Ability to administer medications safely following prescribed instructions
- Excellent caregiving skills combined with patience, compassion, and active listening abilities
- Knowledge of home care practices including cleaning routines, meal preparation, and basic first aid
- Familiarity with assisting clients with mobility aids such as walkers or wheelchairs
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a healthcare team
Requirements
- Completion of Health Care Aide (HCA) or Personal Support Worker (PSW) program
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- CLHA 2026 HCA Practice Permit
- Registration or eligibility in the Alberta HCA Directory
- Experience in home care, senior care, or dementia support
- Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Clean vulnerable sector criminal record check
- Strong English communication skills
- Proficiency in additional language is an asset
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
