The Good Bar is a health focused cafe in the heart of East Village at the intersection of the Bow River Pathway network. Serving as a third space for community members to catch up after a morning run, warm up after a cold plunge next door, or an inviting place to send emails from. Exclusively roasting Rosso Coffee Beans, The Good Bar focuses on serving clean ingredients and health conscious items to fuel guests to feel their bests.
Job Summary:
The Lead Barista utilizes their passion for coffee to support the growth of that same passion in their co-workers. They report directly to their Store Manager, and, secondarily, to the Head Trainer. They will collaborate with them on coffee recipe upkeep, as well as actively communicating with and supporting their team members for optimal execution of the coffee program.
Responsibilities:
Prepare a diverse range of coffee beverages, including espresso, cappuccinos, lattes, cold brews, and pour-overs, adhering to our strict quality standards.
Showcase your expertise in latte art, adding a personalized touch to each coffee creation and elevating the visual appeal of our beverages.
Customer Service Excellence:
Greet customers with a warm and friendly demeanour, offering a genuine and inviting atmosphere in our cafe.
Actively engage with customers, attentively listening to their preferences and providing expert recommendations to enhance their coffee experience.
Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally and promptly, striving to exceed their expectations and resolve any issues.
Client Experience Enhancement:
Implement our company’s customer service principles, ensuring each visitor feels valued, respected, and appreciated throughout their time in our coffee shop.
Collaborate with colleagues to curate unique and engaging customer experiences.
Coffee Quality Assurance and Food Presentation:
Maintain a clean and organized coffee station and food prep area, adhering to strict hygiene and sanitation standards.
Assist in managing inventory, monitoring stock levels, and ensuring that all supplies and equipment are in top condition.
Responsible for opening and closing the cafe once final sign-off with the Head Trainer has occurred.
Making sure all stations are set up and ready prior to store opening and completing the morning checklist.
Responsible for adhering to all standards when closing the cafe. Must be comfortable being in the cafe alone.
And systems set by Rosso Coffee Program that enable a consistent and high quality coffee.
Providing supportive and individualized training for the entire cafe team.
Logging weekly KPIs to ensure upkeep of equipment, and coffee quality.
Regular tasting of filter coffee, espresso and pour overs to adjust recipes and maximize flavour.
Regularly communicating personal and staff needs, in regards to coffee quality and staff training, with their Manager and the Head Trainer.
Ensuring their cafe has the necessary tools, training and inventory necessary for pour over service.
Tracking the coffee-relevant skill development of their co-workers over time.
Stay updated on the latest coffee trends, brewing techniques, and industry developments to enhance your skills and knowledge as a barista.
Weekly reading of memos and updates.
Share your passion for coffee with fellow team members and customers, contributing to a coffee culture that is both educational and enjoyable.
Qualifications

Proven experience as a barista or in a similar hospitality customer service role.

Previous experience within the specialty coffee industry is beneficial.

Available for a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Passion for specialty coffee—an overall interest and desire to work and grow within the company and the industry.

Compassionate and growth oriented communication, teaching and teamwork skills.

Basic understanding of coffee machinery and the internal workings of coffee related equipment for basic, in the moment troubleshooting and maintenance demands.

Willingness to develop and improve upon coffee tasting, brewing, and evaluating skills.

Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively to achieve results.

Have a no-excuses, execution mindset to see tasks and projects through from start to finish.
