Summary
The Lead Hand supports the Shop Foreman and acts as a working leader on the shop floor. This role provides day-to-day guidance to employees, assists with coordinating work activities, and helps ensure production goals are achieved safely, efficiently, and to quality standards. The Lead Hand leads by example and serves as a key resource for employees within their assigned area.

Job Duties
- Lead by example and support a team of fabricators, fitters, welders, and labourers.
- Assist with coordinating daily work activities to meet production schedules and priorities.
- Support the Shop Foreman in communicating assignments, production requirements, and expectations.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices and company safety standards.
- Monitor workmanship and help ensure quality standards are met.
- Provide training, coaching, and guidance to employees as required.
- Ensure drawings, specifications, and work instructions are understood and followed.
- Assist in resolving day-to-day production issues and escalating concerns when required.
- Help maintain organized work areas and efficient material flow throughout the shop.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational efficiencies.
- Participate in hands-on fabrication activities as required
Requirements
- Experience in structural steel fabrication, heavy manufacturing, industrial construction, or a related environment, working as a Metal Fabricator or Welder.
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes, shop operations, and quality requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and productive workplace.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
Work Conditions
- Physical ability to lift up to 50lb
- Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.

Experience:
- metal fabrication: 3 years (preferred)
- welding: 3 years (preferred)
- supervisory or lead hand: 1 year (preferred)
