About the Opportunity
Industrial Plastics Canada (IPC) is seeking a driven Mechanical Engineering Technologist / Technician or Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our operations team in North Bay.
This is not a typical entry-level role. You will work directly alongside the Operations Manager, gaining hands-on experience in advanced manufacturing, machine programming, and process optimization, within a globally connected organization.
This position is ideal for a recent graduate looking to fast-track their technical career and develop into a process engineer.
What You Will Do
This role combines engineering, production, and problem-solving in a hands-on industrial environment:
- Production & Process Mastery
- Learn and operate specialized PTFE manufacturing processes used in high-performance applications
- Machine Programming & Automation
Assist in programming and optimizing industrial machinery and automated systems
- Technical Troubleshooting
Work alongside the production team to diagnose mechanical issues, improve reliability, and minimize downtime. Analyze production data and support initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance output quality. Apply global engineering standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Receive ongoing technical coaching from the Operations Manager, with exposure to international best practices.

Who We’re Looking For
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology / Technician or Mechanical Engineering
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
- Interest in manufacturing, automation, and industrial processes
- Attention to detail and willingness to learn in a hands-on setting
- Comfortable working on production floor environments
Nice to have:
- Exposure to CAD, manufacturing processes, or automation
- Familiarity with modern tools, including digital or AI-based technologies (not required)
Eligibility Requirements (Program-Based)
This position is partially funded through FedNor’s Youth Internship Program. Candidates must:
- Be 30 years of age or under
- Have graduated within the last 3 years from a recognized post-secondary institution
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Not have previously participated in a similar government-funded internship (over 6 months)
- Reside in Northern Ontario or be willing to relocate
