About Gentec Equipment
Gentec Equipment is a growing manufacturer serving the heavy equipment market. We are looking for a hands-on, accountable Shop Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of our manufacturing facility in Vars, Ontario.
This role is responsible for ensuring the shop runs safely, efficiently, predictably, and profitably. The successful candidate will own the operating system of the facility: production planning, materials availability, inventory control, quality, shipping/receiving, facility and equipment upkeep, and on-time delivery.
This is not simply a “shop supervisor” role. The Shop Operations Manager is expected to own outcomes, build processes, manage priorities, remove bottlenecks, and coordinate people, materials, equipment, and vendors so the team can consistently deliver quality products on schedule.
Core Responsibilities & Ownership
- Production Scheduling & Delivery: Own the master production schedule to maximize manufacturing throughput. Take direct accountability for the On-Time Delivery (OTD) metric from order intake to carrier pickup.
- Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): Act as the ultimate champion for shop floor safety. Ensure strict compliance with the Ontario Ministry of Labour regulations, and maintain zero-incident standards across departments.
- Labor Capacity & Team Management: Directly lead and hold accountable the growing shop team. Monitor labor efficiency, manage cross-training schedules, control overtime budgets, and drive the hiring and onboarding process for new floor staff.
- Inventory & Purchasing Control: Set and oversee optimal stocking levels for steel, raw materials, and finished goods to eliminate production bottlenecks while protecting cash flow.
- Quality Assurance & Control: Systematize strict quality checkpoints throughout the fabrication and welding processes to eliminate downstream product defects.
- Shipping, Receiving & Logistics: Oversee the facility’s inbound/outbound freight, ground logistics, and material handling systems to guarantee seamless product movement.
- Facility & Equipment Lifecycle: Manage preventative maintenance programs for heavy fabrication machinery, welding equipment, and overall building infrastructure.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 5–10+ years of progressive leadership experience managing manufacturing operations, specifically in heavy machinery, metal fabrication, or industrial welding environments.
- Team Leadership: Proven track record of managing, motivating, and scheduling a dedicated team of production workers and welders.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of heavy fabrication shop standards (e.g., welding, metal machining, and material handling safety).
- Systems Literacy: Proficiency utilizing ERP/MRP systems to manage inventory, track procurement metrics, and forecast production workloads.
- Language: Fluent in English (French bilingualism is a bonus).
Pay: $100,000.00-$125,000.00 per year
