Our client is a well-established and growing infrastructure services organization specializing in delivering complex field operations, maintenance, and project services within highly safety-focused and operationally demanding environments.
They are currently adding a General Superintendent to their Abbotsford, BC team. The new hire will be responsible for overseeing and managing all phases of railway track construction and maintenance projects including safety, scheduling, coordinating workers, materials and equipment, supervising sub-contractors, ensuring that specifications are being followed and that work is completed safely, on schedule and within budget.

The General Superintendent will be on-site (projects in the Lower Mainland) as well as in the office.
Responsibilities:
Provides leadership and oversight to all construction efforts to ensure that all projects are executed in accordance with the design, budget, and schedule;- Ensures adequate resources are in place including scheduling labour, equipment, materials that will meet schedule, quality, and budget.
- Performs in-depth review of drawings, designs and contract documentation to become familiar with all details, notes and requirements.
- Supervises total construction and maintenance effort in the field to ensure work is in accordance with design, specifications, budget and schedule.
- Monitors quality standards of all work, including sub-contractor performance.
- Responsible for productivity of workers and efficient use of materials and equipment
- Reports production quantities to the office and reviews labour productivity reports on a weekly basis.
- Able to understand contracts, and scope of work. Will work with Project Management Team with identifying and managing any potential change orders.
- Monitors and adheres to established budgets for the job.
- Investigates alternative work methods and materials which will either improve efficiency and/or the quality of work performed.
- Monitors job schedules and coordinates sub-contractors’ work and suppliers’ deliveries and equipment needs, taking appropriate action as necessary.
- Ensures all field personnel comply with Company policies, project procedures, safety program and work rules, taking corrective action as necessary.
- Reviews and approves timesheets for accuracy, job coding, equipment, material, etc.
- Participates in invoicing, identifies and administers extra to be invoiced. Gets involved with outstanding A/R’s when required.
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Acts as a liaison among owners, inspectors, staff and subcontractors.
- Assists with the preparation of written reports and/or updates for management, client, and project team, to ensure a clear understanding of project status.

Qualifications:
A minimum of 10 years recent related construction experience including a thorough knowledge of construction industry practices, methods and process. Prior railway experience is highly preferred.- Demonstrated experience applying knowledge of basic project controls, material management, contract management, subcontract management.
- Track record of successfully executing projects on schedule and within budget.
- Valid and clean Driver’s License.
- High School graduation plus post-secondary training in a related field or equivalent education, training and experience;
- Strong management skills and ability to motivate employees.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office software.
- Proficient in excel with an ability to build schedules, lists, and small estimates.
- Effective organizational, communication and client relations skills.
- Ability to read and comprehend drawings and specifications.
- Ability to pass background checks including pre-employment drug screening.
- Availability to work nights/weekends as needed.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
Compensation:
$150,000-180,000 annual base salary- Discretionary bonus based on company, office, project, and safety performance
