Electrical Controls Designer
Cousins Packaging Inc. is a designer and manufacturer of high quality pallet stretch wrap machinery and systems. Our range of products varies from simple semi-automatic turntable-style machines to custom-engineered, fully automatic, conveyorized systems.
We are currently recruiting for the position of Senior Electrical Controls Designer.
Day to day activities:
- Project reveiw, critiquing the application, reveiw of the scope of work and the associated cost of controls, determination of appropriate control product selection.
- PLC and Operator Interface program development
- Design of electrical control systems
- Produce electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and machine control device layout drawings using AutoCAD
- Control component and electrical hardware selection
- Programming and debugging the assembled equipment on our shop floor
- Providing technical assistance to customers and field technicians
- Assist purchasing with decisions on component substitutes / alternate product selection.
- Limited estimating of controls costs for non-standard & special systems to assist sales dept. with quoting.
- Try to develop / uphold a culture of continuous improvement for the department.
- Required Skills:
- Excellent command of English – speaking/reading/writing.
- Clear communicator
- Strong mechanical background
- Good computer skills and experience using MS Office programs (Excel, Word, Access)
- Experienced AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical user
- Familiarity with machine control design and the application of electrical design methods used in the manufacture of automated equipment.
- Experienced in the selection, start-up and tuning of DC and AC variable speed drives.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley MicroLogix, SLC-500, CompactLogix and ControlLogix PLC’s and associated programming software
- Experience with Allen-Bradley PanelView Plus Operator Interface and associated programming software
- Field experience with installation, start-up assistance, customer training and trouble-shooting
- Knowledge of Canadian and US codes and standards (CEC, NEC, OSHA, UL508, CSA Z432)
- Experience with Panasonic and B&R PLCs would be considered an asset.
- Experience with B&R platform is an asset.Required Education:C.E.T. Certified Engineering Technologist or higher.
