Legal Assistant
Diversified Staffing Services is looking for a Legal Assistant for our clients in Edmonton and surrounding areas. The successful candidate will provide administrative and legal support to attorneys by managing case files, preparing legal documents, coordinating communications, and ensuring deadlines are met. This role requires strong organizational skills, discretion, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, process, and maintain legal documents, disclosure packages, and case files.
- Organize and manage physical and electronic filing systems.
- Monitor calendars, court dates, deadlines, and case activities.
- Review records and documents for completeness and accuracy.
- Draft legal correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documentation as required.
- Coordinate and communicate with lawyers, clients, insurance companies, courts, and other stakeholders.
- Track incoming and outgoing records, documents, and case-related information.
- Scan, upload, and maintain digital documents within case management systems.
- Respond to document requests and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Maintain confidential client and case information in accordance with privacy regulations.
- Assist with legal research using Westlaw and other legal resources.
- Provide administrative support, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and managing correspondence.
- Support attorneys with case preparation and status reporting.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a law office or legal environment.
- Strong knowledge of legal procedures, documentation, and office practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Experience using Westlaw and legal case management software.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education is considered an asset.
