Position Vacancy: Temporary Full Time approx. until January 2027 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Position: Registered Nurse (ONA)
Position Summary:
The incumbent to this composite position will work across the Children’s Program in both the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Inpatient Pediatric unit. Over time, the incumbent will be expected to develop clinical expertise in both areas and grow their skills and knowledge to become a proficient expert-level practitioner in both areas. The composite position is intended to support each of these two units and, due to their additional knowledge and skillset, the incumbent can also be reassigned as needed between the two units in times of unexpected surge or increased acuity. Expectations include the provision of exemplary care that is patient and family focused, and based on current best evidence; provision of education and support to families in a safe, efficient and responsive manner; and collaboration within the multidisciplinary team to support a safe, productive, and respectful working environment.
Position Requirements:
- Valid license with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Recent experience in Neonatal ICU (level II or III). New graduate RNs who have completed their final consolidation in NICU may be considered.
- STABLE or ACORN certification preferred.
- Canadian Nurses Association certification in Neonatal Nursing practice specialty preferred.
- Completion of or significant progress toward completion of a neonatal critical care nursing certification (college certificate or other accredited program) preferred.
- Neonatal critical care education program required to be completed within 2 years of hire (college certificate or other accredited program).
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification mandatory for hire.
Completion of 16 hour breastfeeding course(s) mandatory within 6 months of hire.

Demonstrated skill in:
- Ability to adapt to changes in care based on best evidence
- Excellent neonatal assessment skills
- Care of the neonate requiring respiratory support - non-invasive and short term invasive ventilation
- Care of infants requiring enteral and parenteral nutrition
- Developmentally supportive care of the at risk neonate
- Neonatal venipuncture and capillary blood sampling
- Care of central lines, intravenous medication administration and fluid management.
Experience with computer based documentation
