The Hook
Are you a production leader who understands that a flawless timber frame structure starts long before the CNC machine ever touches the wood? Do you want to step away from the chaotic volume-driven mills and manage a specialized, quality-first sawmill operation? What the Role Is
This is not standard, high-volume commodity milling. Our work revolves around custom, high-end timber optimization. As the Sawmill Manager, your core mission is to keep the saw line strategically fed and running smoothly. You will take ownership of the log resource from the yard to the blade, ensuring our sister company's exacting standards and tight lead times are met without compromise.
What You’ll Do:
- Feed the Line & Optimize Resources: Oversee log yard inventory, working closely with procurement and team members to properly allocate and sort the right log resources into the saw line for maximum recovery and quality.
- Master the Schedule: Keep track of production schedules, lead times, and custom cutting lists to ensure Daizen’s high-end projects are never left waiting for fiber.
- Maintain Operational Excellence: Keep equipment running at peak performance by coordinating preventative maintenance, managing equipment uptime, and troubleshooting mechanical/operational bottlenecks.
- Lead and Support the Team: Directly supervise, mentor, and work alongside mill team members, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and mutual respect.
- Quality & Flow Control: Monitor lumber grading, dimensions, and moisture requirements to guarantee the output perfectly matches the high standards of bespoke timber framing.
What We Are Looking For:
- A Passion for Precision: Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of supervisory or management experience within a sawmill or wood manufacturing environment (experience with custom cutting or timber sizing is a huge asset).
- A Strategic Mind: Excellent organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to track schedules, manage lead times, and handle logistics smoothly under tight deadlines.
- Mechanical & Operational Aptitude: A strong understanding of sawmill machinery, maintenance scheduling, and how to safely optimize equipment uptime.
- A Team Mindset: A proactive leader who thrives in a diverse, collaborative, and multicultural environment where clear, respectful communication between the yard, the mill floor, and management is paramount.
