The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, eligible employees may be entitled to other elements of total compensation, which may include group benefits, employer RRSP contributions, & discretionary bonus or incentive programs, where applicable to the role. Further details regarding our total rewards program will be shared by the Talent Acquisition team during the hiring process. Canadian work experience is not a requirement for this role. The Workers’ Compensation Claims Department completes Employer Report of Injury forms for submission to the applicable Workers’ Compensation Boards across Canada, in addition to providing ongoing claims management and return-to-work support.
Now, if you were to come on board as our Workers’ Compensation Senior Claims and Return to Work Specialist, we’d ask you to do the following for us:
- Facilitate disability management and early and safe return to work programs for occupational injuries and illnesses
- Liaise with all stakeholders in the rehabilitation and RTW process including Workers’ Compensation Case Managers, Return to Work Specialists, Physicians, Unit Managers, Unions and injured associate to facilitate return-to-work
- Participate in return-to-work meetings with all key stakeholders
- Develop and monitor ESRTW programs for injured associates based upon submitted medical information and communication from the applicable Workers’ Compensation Board
- File Workers’ Compensation Employer Reports and supporting documentation within the legislated timelines, in addition to composing objection letters in accordance with provincial Workers’ Compensation legislation regarding questionable claims
- Manage an active caseload, maintaining current file documentation and file notes using Origami Risk Management Software system
- Liaise with health care providers to ensure timely referrals as required and monitor the success of the recovery process
- Initiate and follow-up on formal requests to the boards regarding cost relief
- Ensure that the organization’s early and safe return to work (ESRTW) program is implemented within the provincial legislative requirements
- Provide supervisory training regarding claims management and occupational return to work procedures
- Participate in team conference calls to discuss current initiatives, and troubleshoot active claims
- Ability to work with highly sensitive confidential information, including working with the Compass People & Culture team to obtain work-related psychological injury claims investigation details
- Provide recommendation to initiate appeals when adverse decisions are received
- Other duties as required

Multi-provincial claims management experience is an asset
Relevant University or College degree with emphasis on Disability Management, Kinesiology, Human Resources or legal fields
3-5 years of experience in claims management and return-to-work facilitation
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
Strong knowledge of Workers’ Compensation operational policies, Human Rights legislation and privacy legislation
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Strong technology proficiency (case management systems and Microsoft applications)
Strong organizational skills
Knowledge of Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
