Position Summary
The Beamline Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of automated beam processing equipment used in the fabrication of structural steel components. This role involves loading material, operating CNC beamline machinery, monitoring production quality, performing measurements and inspections, and ensuring finished products meet engineering drawings and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate CNC beamline equipment used for drilling, coping, cutting, marking, and
processing structural steel beams.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, production schedules, and work orders.
- Load, position, and secure steel beams and structural members for processing.
- Monitor machine operation and make adjustments as required to maintain production quality and efficiency.
- Verify dimensions, hole locations, cut lengths, and other specifications using measuring tools.
- Perform quality inspections throughout the production process.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions, material defects, or quality concerns.
- Maintain accurate production records and documentation.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and housekeeping tasks.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Work closely with quality control, fitters, welders, and production supervisors to meet production targets.
- Assist with material handling using overhead cranes, forklifts, or other equipment as required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, quality, and safety.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous manufacturing, fabrication, or machine operation experience.
- Ability to read measuring devices including tape measures, calipers, and squares.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and production documents.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred
- Experience operating CNC beamline equipment (Voortman, Peddinghaus, Ficep, Ocean, or similar).
- Experience in a structural steel fabrication environment.
- Overhead crane and forklift certification.
- Knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes.
- Understanding of quality control and inspection procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Comfortable working in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work around moving machinery, steel products, and overhead cranes.
- Ability to work overtime or shift work when required.
