GRADESPERSON - Civil Construction
Overview
BREYCON Construction is a leading civil construction company specializing in paving, road construction, and civil infrastructure. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Gradesperson to join our team. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of grading, excavation, and the technical aspects of site preparation for construction projects. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a skilled team and contribute to high-quality civil engineering projects. Must have good work ethic, teamwork skills, and safety focused.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Grading & Excavation: Perform site grading, excavation, and land preparation tasks in accordance with project specifications. Use specialized equipment (e.g., graders, dozers, excavators) to ensure the site is accurately prepared for construction.
- Surveying and Layout: Work closely with the Surveyor and Foreman to interpret and follow project blueprints and specifications, ensuring proper grades are achieved throughout the project. Assist with setting up benchmarks and performing stakeouts as needed.
- Equipment Operation: Safely and effectively operate grading equipment and machinery while adhering to all safety standards. Perform daily inspections of equipment to ensure safe and optimal functioning.
- Quality Control & Accuracy: Maintain high standards of accuracy and precision in grading and excavation work to ensure project specifications and quality requirements are met.
- Collaboration with Crew: Work alongside the project team, including Foremen, Superintendents, and other trades, to ensure that grading work is completed efficiently and according to the project timeline.
- Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting: Identify and address any issues or challenges encountered during grading activities, ensuring minimal disruptions to project schedules.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations on the job site, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to industry safety protocols.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate daily logs of work performed, materials used, and any challenges encountered. Report any issues to the Foreman or Superintendent as necessary.
Requirements and Skills
- Proven experience as a Gradesperson or in a similar role within civil construction
- Strong leadership, teamwork, and organizational skills
- Strong knowledge of grading techniques, soil types, and excavation methods
- Proficiency in operating grading equipment such as graders, dozers, excavators, and loaders
- Ability to interpret project blueprints, plans, and survey data
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and practices on construction sites
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Safety focused; able to work safely and stay alert at all times
- Able to give and take instruction and work with all crews to perform project requirements
- Physical strength, stamina and coordination to perform various weather conditions
- Able to pass drug and alcohol testing if required
- Must maintain a courteous and professional manner with supervisors, co-workers, customers, and the public at all times
- Mechanical knowledge is beneficial
Qualifications
- Experience with SEER-type (Site Environmental Engineering and Remediation) civil projects
- Knowledge of using GPS-based grading equipment and technology
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
- CSTS and WHIMIS required; additional safety and construction certifications and other related training is beneficial
