Position Title: Butcher Assistant / Meat Processing Associate
Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday (or as scheduled), 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break
Position Summary
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Butcher Assistant / Meat Processing Associate to support the daily operations of the butcher department. The successful candidate will assist with meat preparation, specialty cuts, packaging, vacuum sealing, equipment operation, and maintaining the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and perform a variety of specialty meat cuts according to company standards and customer requirements.
- Package fresh meat products accurately and professionally.
- Operate vacuum sealing equipment to ensure proper product preservation and quality.
- Safely operate butcher department machinery and equipment, including slicers, saws, grinders, and other processing equipment as required.
- Assist the butcher department with daily production, preparation, merchandising, and inventory-related tasks.
- Maintain product quality, freshness, and presentation standards.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, HACCP, and workplace health & safety procedures.
- Clean, sanitize, and organize all workstations, tools, machinery, and food preparation areas at the end of each shift to ensure readiness for the next day's production.
- Monitor inventory levels and report low stock or equipment issues to the supervisor.
- Work collaboratively with team members to meet daily production and operational goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Manager.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a butcher shop, meat processing facility, grocery store, or food production environment is preferred.
- Experience performing meat cutting and packaging is considered a strong asset.
- Ability to safely operate meat processing equipment and machinery.
- Strong understanding of food handling, sanitation, and workplace safety practices.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and stand for extended periods.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a positive work ethic.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of different meat cuts and processing techniques.
- Experience with vacuum packaging equipment.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and sanitation procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high quality standards.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull products weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Stand, bend, twist, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
- Comfortable working in refrigerated and cold storage environments.
- Ability to use knives and meat processing equipment safely.
