Summary
The purchaser generally responsible for purchasing merchandise for resale in the retail market. The purchaser studies the market to bring in the new trends and select the merchandise that best fits the established market of the store. The purchaser keeps excellent relationships with suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Plan, purchase, and replenish merchandise to maintain appropriate inventory levels while meeting customer demand.
- Monitor inventory performance and identify opportunities to improve stock availability and reduce shortages or excess inventory.
- Review inventory reports and investigate discrepancies, making adjustments or coordinating corrective actions as required.
- Process purchase orders, special orders, product transfers, and supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
- Coordinate the receipt and reconciliation of inventory documentation with warehouse and receiving staff.
- Maintain accurate product information, including pricing, product records, and inventory data within company systems.
- Support promotional activities by coordinating product ordering, pricing updates, and inventory requirements for sales events and seasonal programs.
- Monitor sales trends and seasonal demand to ensure appropriate stock levels for key product categories.
- Review new product opportunities and recommend merchandise that aligns with customer needs and business objectives.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with suppliers and negotiate or coordinate purchasing requirements as needed.
- Prepare product quotations and source materials for internal departments and customer projects.
- Assist with product markdowns, clearance activities, and inventory optimization initiatives.
- Maintain organized purchasing records and ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with internal departments to support day-to-day operations and resolve inventory or purchasing issues.
- Contribute to special projects and other operational initiatives as assigned.
- Work on special projects assigned by the manager.
- Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management to have the situation corrected.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A university degree or college diploma in business, supply chain or a related program is an asset.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous work experience in retail or wholesale establishments is a benefit
