Independent Contractor Psychotherapist
Part-Time | Hybrid | Orangeville and Virtual in Ontario
Strength Within Psychotherapy is seeking an experienced and independently practicing psychotherapist to join the practice as an independent contractor for approximately 5–10 client hours per week with room to grow.
This is a unique opportunity for a clinician interested in providing both traditional psychotherapy and Movement & Exercise Psychotherapy™ (MEP™). The successful candidate will provide virtual psychotherapy across Ontario and some in-person services at our private gym location in Orangeville.
Strength Within Psychotherapy is beginning a thoughtful expansion of its clinical team. Because this is a highly specialized role, the priority is finding a clinician whose experience, values, and approach align well with the practice rather than filling the position quickly.
About Strength Within Psychotherapy
Strength Within Psychotherapy provides psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families across Ontario.
In addition to traditional psychotherapy, the practice offers Movement & Exercise Psychotherapy™, an experiential approach that thoughtfully integrates psychotherapy with movement, exercise, strength-based activities, and embodied interventions.
MEP™ is provided within a private and supportive gym environment and is tailored to each client’s therapeutic goals, physical abilities, comfort level, and clinical needs.
The Role
The contractor will gradually develop a small caseload based on their availability, clinical experience, areas of competence, client fit, and referral demand.
Responsibilities may include:
- Providing individual psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults
- Providing couples counselling
- Supporting parents and families, where appropriate
- Offering virtual psychotherapy to clients across Ontario
- Providing in-person MEP™ sessions in Orangeville
- Integrating movement, somatic, embodied, or experiential interventions when clinically appropriate
- Completing timely, accurate, and professional clinical documentation
- Maintaining all ethical, privacy, professional, and regulatory requirements
- Collaborating with the practice owner regarding referrals, client fit, risk concerns, and continuity of care
- Participating in monthly group practice consultation meetings
- Maintaining independent clinical judgment and responsibility for all services provided
Required Qualifications

- Carry any additional insurance required for movement- or fitness-related services within their scope
- Have established experience providing psychotherapy independently
- Have experience or formal training in couples counselling
- Demonstrate strong clinical judgment, professionalism, reliability, and communication
- Be comfortable working independently within an independent contractor arrangement
- Be available to provide some in-person services in Orangeville
- Be interested in integrating movement and exercise into psychotherapy thoughtfully, safely, and within professional scope
Please note that this position is not suitable for RP (Qualifying) applicants.

- Couples and relationship concerns

- Neurodivergent clients, including clients with ADHD, autism, or intellectual and developmental differences
- First responders and frontline professionals
- Anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, burnout, and emotional regulation concerns

- Clients who may feel uncomfortable with traditional office-based talk therapy
- Clients who benefit from experiential, movement-based, or body-oriented approaches
Training or experience in somatic, embodied, experiential, trauma-informed, or nervous-system-informed psychotherapy is strongly preferred.

- Referral and caseload updates
- Client fit and practice capacity

- Professional collaboration and peer case consultation
As the founder of Movement & Exercise Psychotherapy™, the practice owner will provide orientation, consultation, and ongoing feedback regarding the MEP™ model and its implementation within the practice. These meetings are intended for practice consultation and collaboration and do not constitute clinical supervision. Contractors must be authorized to practice independently and remain responsible for obtaining any external supervision or consultation required by their regulatory college, professional scope, or individual practice needs.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an experienced clinician who is confident working independently while valuing consultation, collaboration, and connection within a growing practice.
They are warm, adaptable, clinically grounded, and comfortable supporting a varied caseload. They will have particular competence in couples counselling and an interest in working with children, youth, neurodivergent clients, first responders, and clients experiencing trauma-related, mood, anxiety, OCD, or other emotional regulation concerns.
They will also be genuinely interested in moving beyond a traditional office-based model of psychotherapy and incorporating movement, exercise, somatic awareness, and embodied interventions in a clinically appropriate way.
