Secondary English Teacher

Salary: $54,000 – $88,000 annually (commensurate with experience and education)
Banbury Crossroads School seeks a passionate and innovative Secondary English Teacher for grades 7 to 12. The selected candidate will be responsible for crafting and delivering an English curriculum in a self-directed learning environment that is both engaging and thought-provoking. The ideal candidate will bring creativity and a deep love for literature and language arts to the classroom, inspiring students to develop a lifelong appreciation for reading and writing.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, Develop, and Execute Lessons: Design and implement lessons that align with the Alberta Programs of Study, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning styles of students.
- Foster a Literature-rich Environment: Cultivate a classroom atmosphere that encourages love for literature, critical thinking, and effective communication.
- Guide Literary Analysis and Creative Writing Projects: Lead students in exploring various literary genres, authors, and encourage them to express their thoughts and narratives creatively.
- Integrate English with Other Disciplines: Work with colleagues to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities that enrich students' understanding of English in diverse contexts.
- Assess Student Progress: Evaluate student performance through both formative and summative assessments, providing feedback that fosters growth and development in language arts skills.
- Communicate with Parents and Guardian
- articipate actively in professional development sessions to remain current on innovative teaching methods and literature.
- Leverage Small Class Sizes: Utilize small class sizes (typically a 10:1 student-to-teacher ratio) to provide more personalized instruction and foster stronger relationships with students.
- Support Special Needs Students: Adapt teaching strategies to meet the unique learning requirements of students with special needs, ensuring an inclusive and supportive environment for all learners.
Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification for Alberta.
- Bachelor of Education degree; Master of Education degree is preferred.
- Additional qualifications in English or a related field are advantageous.
- International Baccalaureate experience for Middle Years Programme or Diploma Programme are an asset but not required
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Proven experience in teaching English to secondary students, with a strong grasp of literary analysis and pedagogical strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of inspiring and engaging students from diverse backgrounds.
