BASIC FUNCTION
The Restaurant Manager is responsible for generating performance which exceeds customer's expectations while maintaining Operating Standards, achieving financial results and developing an outstanding team.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
This position reports to the Area Manager.
Key internal relationships include other members of the area management team to integrate ideas and efforts, the Regional Manager for Restaurant Performance Reports, the Payroll Department and Corporate Services.
Key external relationships include the customer, suppliers, representatives from the Health and Safety Board, Fire Department, Labour Board.
The restaurant's Assistant Manager and/or Assistant Manager Trainee report directly to this position. Also reporting to this position are all hourly paid employees including shift supervisors.
Critical to success in this position are an ability to manage and lead a large, diverse, and customer focused team in a high volume business environment in which an excellent working Climate is a key. Also required is an ability to read and understand financial statements. A proven ability to problem solve, innovate and implement change to improve the success of the business is also critical. Finally a high proficiency in selecting, training and developing people is a key. It is desirable to have post-secondary education in the field of business, or the equivalent business experience. The Restaurant Manager must hold a valid driver’s license and have regular access to a car.
The Restaurant Manager has the decision making authority in all areas of the restaurant's day to day operations with the exception of local purchasing and local advertising. Assistant Manager Transfers, promotion of Shift Supervisors, Assistant Manager Salary reviews, expenditures over plan and single expenditures in repairs and maintenance over $1000 require the approval of the Area Manager. Hiring or promotion of candidates to Assistant Manager requires two levels of approval.

This position is responsible for:
Human Resources:
1. Develop and maintain a safe, healthy and motivating work environment through high personal standards of integrity and effective communication.
2. Effectively manage the restaurant team utilizing best practices in recruitment, selection, training, delegation, coaching, performance reviews and developing promotable staff and management.
3. Building an outstanding Climate where responsibilities are shared, problems are resolved, members are motivated and results are owned by individuals and the group. The Manager builds his/her Team though strong application of
A&W policies and procedures.
Customers:
1. Maintain A&W Customer Service Standards including caring customer service, speed of service, quality and consistency of food products and cleanliness of the restaurant.
2. Develop the profile and reputation of A&W within his/her local trading area and mall by building outstanding relationships in the community with customers and business neighbours. Earn respect as an employer in order to gain long term Net Sales growth and attract high caliber employees.
Financial Results:
1. Manage all aspects of the profitability of the restaurant including setting and achieving the Annual Profit Plan.
2. Manage all variable and fixed costs and fixed assets associated with restaurant operation.
3. Adhering strictly to clearly defined practices and procedures regarding the handling of cash in the restaurant and deposits of cash/receipts to the bank.
4. Develops annually, with the Area Manager, a mutually agreed set of objectives.
5. Responsible for the ongoing management of all restaurant administration systems ensuring the reporting and retention of accurate data and records.
Best Operated Practice Innovation/Continuous Improvement:
1. Adjust restaurant execution priorities continuously to achieve the optimal balance of results between food quality, speed of service and low waste.
2. Execute new "Best Operated Practices" in his/her restaurant.
Marketing:
Develop and execute effective local marketing programs. Execute National promotions and effectively manage discounts achieving incremental dollar Operating Margins from all sales building activities.
Pay: From $45,000.00 per year
