About the Opportunity
Our client, a respected national not for profit organization focused on advocacy, community engagement, and policy leadership, is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Manager, Social and Economic Development to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong people leader who thrives in a mission driven environment and is passionate about supporting meaningful social impact initiatives across Indigenous and Northern communities.
This role is ideal for someone who can confidently step into a fast-paced environment, lead and mentor staff, coordinate multiple policy and community initiatives, and build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving projects forward, supporting policy and advocacy activities, managing operational priorities, and helping shape initiatives tied to social and economic development programs.
This opportunity begins as a contract engagement with strong potential to transition into a long-term permanent position for the right candidate.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Provide leadership, mentorship, and day to day direction to a small team within the social and economic development portfolio
Support staff development, workload management, team collaboration, and operational priorities
Coordinate and manage policy, advocacy, and community engagement initiatives
Develop and maintain workplans, project tracking tools, reporting schedules, and deliverables
Support proposal writing, funding applications, reporting activities, and budget coordination
Collaborate with leadership, community groups, consultants, and external stakeholders
Prepare presentations, briefing materials, workshop content, and strategic documents
Coordinate meetings, workshops, travel logistics, and stakeholder engagement activities
Support strategic planning activities and organizational priorities
Assist with policy reviews, research initiatives, and program development activities
Participate in internal and external meetings with community partners and senior stakeholders
Ensure projects and reporting requirements are completed accurately and within timelines
Foster a collaborative, respectful, and culturally aware team environment
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
Post secondary education in business planning, community development, sociology, gender studies, public policy, Indigenous studies, or a related discipline
Minimum 5 years of experience in policy, advocacy, planning, reporting, analytics, or program management environments
Experience working with Indigenous communities or knowledge of Inuit social, economic, and political issues
Previous experience leading or mentoring teams within a collaborative environment
Strong project management, stakeholder engagement, and organizational skills
Experience coordinating reports, proposals, policy documents, or community initiatives
Exceptional communication and relationship building abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines within a fast paced environment
Strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking capabilities
Comfortable participating in workshops, consultations, and community engagement activities
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel
Ability to travel occasionally, if required
Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of Inuktut is considered an asset
About the Job
Duration: Initial 3-month contract with strong potential for permanent conversion
Salary: $75,000 to $85,000 annually
Location: Downtown Ottawa
Work Environment: Hybrid, approximately 1 to 3 days onsite weekly
Hours: 35 hour work week with flexible scheduling options (core hours are 11am -3pm)
