QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Certificate: Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) as issued by the Manitoba Department of Labour.
- Registration: Red Seal Journeyman Industrial Mechanic (Millwright).
- License: Must hold a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License.
LEVEL OF FORMAL EDUCATION:
- VET qualification (i.e., Vocational Education and Training).
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 5 years - extensive position related experience.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be able to estimate costs of time and materials required for new installations or repairs to existing systems or equipment.
- Must be able to read blue prints, schematics and understand technical language and manuals.
- Must have the knowledge and ability to repair various types of equipment safely and properly.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to coordinate and facilitate work with students, coworkers, jurisdictional authorities and other trades.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and capable of following and executing instructions in English (verbal and written).
- Must be able to work independently or in teams with minimal supervision.
- Must have good organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Must be tactful and able to follow privacy and confidentiality policies as it pertains to room entry.
- Must have knowledge of FIPPA and PHIA.
- Must ensure the safety of yourself and others in the work environment.
- Knowledge of the different types of personal protective equipment and when to use them.
- Must be self-motivated, dependable, conscientious, and take pride in quality workmanship.
- Basic computer skills (MS Word and Excel) and ability to maintain records electronically.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- The work environment across the University includes high rise buildings, working in mechanical rooms, working outdoors, working in the presence of staff, students, and public.
- Most work is physically demanding and some work environments present hazards that involve safe work procedures and precautions.
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties as assigned.
- Must be able to pass required FIT assessment and related safety training.
- Must be able to work in awkward, confined spaces and high locations.
- Must be alert and thorough.
- Must be able to perform related duties as assigned.
OTHER:
- May be required to work at the Fort Garry or Bannatyne Campus.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
- Will be required to provide acceptable Criminal Record and Vulnerable Persons Registry checks.
- Works on a wide range of industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Diagnoses irregularities and malfunctions of such machinery and equipment and replaces or repairs as required.
- Cleans, adjusts and lubricates such machinery and equipment.
- Advises when immediate shut down of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporary continued operation will have no harmful effect.
- Perform scheduled preventative and routine maintenance such as meter/gauge readings, visual inspections, bearing vibration analysis, belt tension inspection.
- Machines, brazes, welds and solders parts as required.
- Erects, lines up and levels machinery and equipment.
- Estimates time and material for specific jobs.
- Maintains records as required, both paper and electronic.
- Installs and commissions new equipment.
- Use and maintain tools and equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
