The goal of the Halifax WAC is to Educate, Agitate, and Organize workers to improve the lives of low-wage and marginalized workers in our community. The digital organizer would be responsible for working with the Lead Organizer, workers, and law students to build campaigns for progressive employment legislation in Nova Scotia. This includes doing direct outreach to workers and community members through street canvassing, petitioning, phone-banking, and social media. This role has a particular emphasis on digital communications, social media, distance outreach across Nova Scotia (via phone-banking), and design.
In addition to organizing work, the organizer role will require some basic administrative tasks, including database entry and file management. There is also an opportunity to learn about the legal-servicing and information aspect of our work. Additionally, all roles at the Halifax WAC require some level of fundraising and asking for donations, this is expected of the organizer role as well.

About the Role:
- Communications & design work: creating social media posts, doing basic event photography, educational videos, blog posts, educational materials & flyers, etc.
- Use online tools, social media, and digital outreach to engage workers, mobilize WAC supporters, and drive campaigns and outreach initiatives.
- Do direct outreach to workers and community members on campaigns, including: street canvassing, petitioning, phone-banking, and social media.
- Plan events and organize actions on campaigns with community groups and allied organizations.
- Administrative tasks as needed: database entry, file management.
- With the support of the legal servicing team and Lead Organizer, implement workshops on campaigns & workers’ rights.
- Work with law students studying legislative reforms to build campaigns for progressive employment legislation in NS
- The job is mostly remote with flexible hours - some weekend and evening work is required with ample notice. Ideal candidates are in the HRM or able to travel as needed. The role may require some travel days to accompany the Lead Organizer to events across Nova Scotia.
Qualifications:
- Must be passionate about workers’ rights
- Knowledge of digital platforms, design & communication abilities, and reliable access to the Internet
- Experience in organizing, activism, social movements, law reform, the legal system, non-profits, or the labour movement
- Comfortable in a self directed role, with large-scale goals and timelines created collaboratively with your supervisors
- No formal education is required - lived experience is considered education and an asset.

The length of guaranteed full-time employment is 8 weeks, successful candidates must commit to working the full 8 week term. There is potential to continue employment after the term, individuals will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Pay: $29.40 per hour
