Job Overview
The Cook’s Helper reports to the Head Chef and will be responsible for all aspects of supporting food service delivery by preparing ingredients, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the cook with meal preparation and food production.
- Wash, peel, chop, slice, and portion vegetables, fruits, meats, and other ingredients.
- Prepare simple food items according to recipes and instructions.
- Assemble meals and assist with plating and serving.
- Ensure food is prepared and stored in accordance with food safety and sanitation standards.
- Monitor food temperatures and properly label and rotate food using FIFO (First In, First Out) practices.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, workstations, and food preparation areas.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and kitchen tools using proper sanitation procedures.
- Receive, unpack, and store food and kitchen supplies.
- Assist with inventory counts and notify the cook or supervisor when supplies are running low.
- Dispose of garbage and recycling, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any maintenance concerns.
- Follow all workplace health and safety policies, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with catering, special events, or meal service as required.
- Work cooperatively with kitchen staff and other team members to ensure efficient meal service.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
· Food Safe Level 1 certification (or willingness to obtain).
· Previous kitchen or food service experience is an asset but not always required.
· Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks.
· Good communication and teamwork skills.
· Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 25 kg (55 lbs).
· Successfully complete and maintain Criminal Record Clearances.
· Maintain a valid driver’s license and provide a driver’s abstract annually.
· WHMIS Certification.

Pay: From $21.00 per hour
